Kids in Preschool

Preschool Developmental Services 
(3-5 years of age)

Rochester Hearing & Speech Center provides speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and special education services to preschool children with a disability as determined through the New York State Education process. These services may be provided in our clinic or the child’s home, daycare or preschool in individual sessions or small groups.

Preschool Evaluations (3-5 years of age)

RHSC is an approved New York State Education Department Evaluator, able to complete the multidisciplinary evaluation necessary to determine eligibility for this free program funded by the county and New York State. If you would like more information, please contact your school district for guidance. Evaluation results will be discussed with you on the day of the evaluation.

 

These evaluations can assess a range of development areas, including, but not limited to:

  • Cognition (such as memory and problem solving)

  • Speech-language development (understanding and using language, intelligibility)

  • Fine motor skills (small motor movements like using scissors, grasping)

  • Gross motor skills (large motor movements such as walking, running)

  • Self-help skills (feeding, dressing, toileting, etc.)

  • Sensory processing (adapting to various visual, auditory, tactile stimulation)

  • Learning

  • Behavior

  • Hearing

  • Functional behavioral assessment

    • Preschool Evaluations

    Group Programs

    Speech/OT Group IEP Services:
    30 min 2x/week Speech Therapy
    plus 30 min 2x/week Occupational Therapy

    ​

    Appropriate for preschoolers working to achieve the following goals:

    • Language development (e.g., responding to questions, building vocabulary,
      following directions, grammar)

    • Articulation

    • Fine motor

    • Sensory regulation

    • Visual/perceptual development

    • Self-care

     

    Facilitated By: Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist

    ​

    Frequency: 2 times per week

    Duration: 60 minutes per session

    Group Size: maximum 5 children

    Speech Therapy Group IEP Services:
    30 min 2x/week Speech Therapy

    ​

    Appropriate for preschoolers working to achieve the following goals:

    • Language development (e.g., responding to questions, building vocabulary,
      following directions, grammar)

    • Articulation

    • Functional use of language

     

    Facilitated By: Speech-Language Pathologist

    Frequency: 2 times per week

    Duration: 30 minutes per session

    Group Size: maximum 3-5 children
