General Information 2009 Summer Group Programs

Summer Speech and Language Resources

Groups will run for 6 weeks (July 6 to August 14). Week 7 (August 17-21) will be available for make-ups. Private therapy can run for all 7 weeks.

We have several defined groups. Group therapy allows a child to interact with and be supported by peers with similar needs. Groups will be determined based on need and age and determined by the clinical judgment of the director. Groups will consist of 2-4 children and will be held at all three RHSC locations dependent on need.

In addition to groups, private therapy may be arranged to address any communication or language based learning need. Rates are as follows:

Individual therapy:

30 minutes $40
45 minutes $60
60 minutes $80

Group therapy rates: (other than defined programs):

Financial assistance program and sliding fee schedules are available.

Groups: Age 2 ½ to 5 - These groups are appropriate for children who:

  • Will be transitioning from Early Intervention
  • Will be eligible for summer services through their school district’s Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE)
  • Desire summer services but do not qualify for summer services through EI or CPSE ** RHSC will work with families to access services through insurance. (All Stars cannot be covered by insurance.) Families may also pay privately for services

Talktime Express

  • Meets once a week for 90 minutes
  • Taught by a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist
  • Focuses on language comprehension and expression
  • COST: $60 per group session

All Stars

  • Meets once a week for 90 minutes
  • Taught by a certified special education teacher
  • Focuses on pre-academic concept development, group participation, and attention span
  • COST: $60 per group session

Sounds to Syllable "Orobics"

  • Meets twice weekly for 60 minutes
  • Taught by a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist
  • Designed for preschoolers with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) and/or oral motor delays
  • COST: $40 per group session

Speech Stars

  • Meets twice weekly for 60 minutes
  • Taught by a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist
  • Focuses on evidence-based practices to address speech sound (phonological) skills
  • COST: $40 per group session

Friend Makers

  • Social skills group for 4 and 5 year old children.
  • This group has a combination of direct therapy with the kids, parent education, parent observation and support with generalization (including information that can be shared with future teachers or day care workers to support skills at this level) Meets once a week for 90 minutes.
  • COST: $60 per group session
  • Specialty School Aged Programs (age 5-18)

Back to Basics

  • Two unique programs, one for 4 and 5 year olds and one for children age 6 – 11years, focusing on the underlying language skills needed to be able to read. Your child will learn skills that will either prepare them to read or improve their existing reading skills. Both programs will help your child be better prepared for school and begin to build a motivation and a love to read.
  • Meets two times per week for 45 minutes per session
  • COST: $40 per group session

Spell- Bound

  • Spelling has important connections to reading and writing. Spell-Bound is designed to address spelling issues such as: omission of letters or sounds; letters placed in the wrong order and/or difficulty with vowels sounds. This program also offers opportunities for parents to learn techniques to use with their child at home.
  • Group and/or individual sessions can be arranged.
  • COST: Initial Evaluation (required) $100
    • $40 per session per 60 minute group
    • $40 per session per 30 minutes individual

Auditory Processing

  • This program includes strategies for improved attention, listening and memory skills as well as a focus on establishing and improving organization and language skills. Time will also be spent on teaching the students self- advocacy skills. This program is targeted for students ages 8 – 18. Any student who has a diagnosis of Central Auditory Processing, Receptive Language or Expressive Language Disorder would benefit from our Auditory Processing Group.
  • Meets twice weekly for 60 minutes
  • COST: $40 per group session
