Specialty Programs

  • Lidcombe Fluency Program
    This program is a stuttering treatment for preschool age children. It uses a direct, behavioral approach in which parents are trained to provide treatment in the child’s everyday speaking situations. This treatment program was developed in Sydney, Australia and is scientifically based. Research has shown that this program has an immediate impact on stuttering and results in long-term maintenance of fluency.   • Phonological Awareness Training Program
    Phonological awareness is knowledge of the sound system of our language. Different skills include rhyming, analyzing/blending sounds in words, and manipulating sounds in words. National research studies have shown that phonological awareness skills are important prerequisites to learning how to read and spell. This program is designed for children who are having difficulty acquiring phonological awareness skills or for children who are having difficulty learning to read.
  • Language Learning Disabilities Program
    This program is designed for children who are having difficulty learning in school because of a language based learning disability. Areas evaluated and treated include phonological awareness, narrative language, reading, spelling, writing, language processing, memory, word retrieval, nonliteral language and language reasoning. In addition, therapy sessions are available for children who have difficulty with conversational skills.
  • The Day Care Speech-Language Contract Program
    The Day Care Program offers on-site services to day care centers and nursery schools including: screenings for children referred by teachers, consultation and instruction to classroom staff, and speech therapy sessions at designated sites. The program currently serves more than thirty-five day care centers in Monroe and Wayne Counties.
  • Accent Reduction and Dialect Remediation
    This program is designed for individuals for whom English is their second Language. Therapy focuses on improving articulation of English sounds as well as English grammar and syntax.

Additional programs available for those who qualify through Early Intervention or school district guidelines.

  • The T.A.A.L.K. (Teaching Age-Appropriate Language for Kids) Program
    The T.A.A.L.K. Program provides early intervention services to youngsters 18 - 36 months of age who have speech and language delays. Funding for families and children who meet program guidelines is provided through the Monroe County Early Intervention Services Program. Parents learn ways to help their children at home by attending a classroom program with their children one morning per week and receiving individual services at home.
  • Home Based Services Speech -Language Therapy
    These services send RHSC speech pathologists to where children live and play to offer therapy in the home or at a nursery school setting. This program is funded when authorized by the school district or by Monroe County Early Intervention Services Program.
  • The ECCELS Integrated Classroom Program (Community Based)
    This program is for children 3-5 years of age with severe speech and language delays, who would benefit from a classroom setting that is located at a community day care center in the community. The speech-language delayed children interact with more typically developing peers who provide models for normal language development.
